A Minecraft Movie review

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 11 April 2025 05:51 (A review of A Minecraft Movie)

Genuinely this movie has redefined my understanding of bad cinema. I have never seen a movie I've liked less. I think my fundamental issue with it, at it's core, is that this movie has no idea what the philosophy of Minecraft is. On one hand, it believes that anything can be done through the power of creativity. Fundamentally, it views things in the light that if you are creative, and put your mind to things, you can do anything you want to. On the other, it mocks all of the main protagonists for their states in life, even when they are being creative and chasing their dreams. The movie understands bullying is wrong, though, because it also mocks the people who make fun of things. It has the thesis that creating is harder than destruction, and that's why cowards choose to destroy things, but it also doesn't believe that, either? It spends it's time still mocking everyone, tearing them down, as if that doesn't also exist as a form of destruction. It's the cheap, easy form of comedy to the film, so to watch as it consistently mocks it's self in an effort to be a self aware comedy burns its attempt at morals, making both already weak elements of a weak movie even weaker. It is like watching a small animal slowly die.

Novocaine review

Posted : 2 months ago on 4 April 2025 07:26 (A review of Novocaine)

This movie was fun! It was a very simple plot, and it wasn't really trying to be much more than what it was, but it really had a lot of fun. It was like realistic "Looney Tunes" physics at many points, so if realism is the name of your game it's not going to please, but if you're just trying to see a movie with some friends and chill out with one another, Novocaine is good for that, so long as you all have solid stomachs.

The Deep House review

Posted : 4 months, 1 week ago on 28 January 2025 04:06 (A review of The Deep House)

This movie has the issue of consistently bringing up several themes it could build on, or relate to, or any single thing it could say, and then purposely ignoring all of that to just be a spooky-ish film about a house that's underwater. Why make the main couple so tumultuous just to never really bring it up again once the ghosts start showing up. Why's this entire ghost family have an underwater house? What's with the dead bird wrapped in like barbed wire on the door gate of the underwater house? What are any of these random symbols that you've given us mean in relation to one another? None of it adds up well together, really.

Barbarian review

Posted : 1 year, 6 months ago on 26 November 2023 12:05 (A review of Barbarian)

The only part of this movie I liked was when the main "monster" woman jumped from the tower, the man in front of me and my friends yelled out "SUPER TITS!" into the theater. The point of the movie is so hard to tell. Any message it tried to shoot for, it completely missed by being unwilling to define it's movie by it's themes, which leaves the whole thing bloated and fighting to take it's self seriously and be a piece with a meaning, and a fun movie that's just trying to be weird and kind of gross. You can be offensive, but you can't be a hypocrite. That just makes you lame.
